Summary
- We don’t use analytics, advertising or tracking scripts on this site.
- We don’t set cookies. Our hosting provider may set a strictly necessary security cookie in some cases.
- The speed test runs in your browser and exchanges data with Cloudflare’s network. Like any website you connect to, Cloudflare receives your IP address when you do.
- Your recent results are saved only in your own browser, and you can clear them at any time.
- We don’t store your test results on our servers. A share link contains the results in the link itself.
Who we are
This site is operated as InternetSpeedTest.com. You can contact us at contact@internetspeedtest.com.
When you visit a page
The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. When your browser requests a page, Cloudflare processes standard request information, such as your IP address, the page requested, the time and your browser’s user agent, to deliver the page and protect the site against abuse. This is handled by Cloudflare as our hosting provider under Cloudflare’s privacy policy. We don’t add our own visitor tracking on top of it.
When you run a speed test
Download, upload and latency measurements
When you press Start Test, your browser loads the test engine (Cloudflare’s open-source code, served from this site) and then sends and receives test data to and from speed.cloudflare.com. These requests contain test data only, but Cloudflare necessarily receives your IP address and standard request information to respond. The test engine has an option to send a summary of results to Cloudflare for aggregated research. We have turned that option off.
Packet loss measurement
To measure packet loss, your browser asks a small server function on this website for temporary relay credentials. That function requests them from Cloudflare’s Realtime TURN service and passes them back. Your browser then exchanges UDP test packets with Cloudflare’s TURN relay, which receives your IP address to route them. The function doesn’t store anything about you.
What we see
Your results are calculated in your browser. They are not sent to us.
Results stored in your browser
After a test, your last five results (download, upload, ping and the time) are saved in your browser’s local storage so you can compare them. This data never leaves your device unless you share it. You can delete it with the “Clear history” button under your result, or by clearing site data in your browser.
Share links
If you choose to share a result, the link contains your measured numbers and the test time, encoded in the address. It doesn’t include your IP address, location, provider or anything else about you or your network. We don’t store shared results on a server; the page reads the numbers from the link. Anyone you give the link to can see those numbers. Because the numbers are part of the address, they also appear in our hosting provider’s standard request logs when the link is opened.
Shared result pages are marked so search engines don’t index them.
Emails
If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you write. We use it only to reply and to deal with your request, and we delete correspondence we no longer need.
Third-party links
Our guides link to other websites, such as service providers’ help pages and regulators. Their privacy practices are their own.
Children
The site is not directed at children and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from them.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example, under the GDPR in the UK and EU, or state laws such as the CCPA in California), you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal information about you. Because we don’t keep test results or visitor profiles, we generally hold no personal information about you beyond any emails you send us. To make a request, contact us using the address above. For data processed by Cloudflare, see Cloudflare’s privacy policy.
Changes
If we add analytics, advertising, accounts, server-side result storage or anything else that changes what is collected, we will update this policy before that change takes effect and change the date at the top of this page.
