Speed test results and the guidance on this site are useful for understanding your connection, but they have limits. Please read them with these points in mind.

Results are estimates

A browser-based speed test measures your connection to a nearby test server at one moment. Results vary with your device, browser, WiFi, other traffic, network conditions and the route to the server. Another speed test, using different servers or methods, may give a different result on the same connection. Neither result is necessarily wrong.

Not a measure of your provider’s compliance

Our results can help you understand your connection and are useful to share with your provider. They are not an official measurement for regulatory or contractual purposes. Your provider and regulator may use specific methods for that.

Activity guidance is general

Statements such as “should work well for 4K streaming” are rules of thumb based on published service requirements and common guidance. They are not guarantees. Real experience depends on the service, its servers, your device and what else is happening on your network.

Third-party requirements may change

We quote speed requirements from services such as Netflix, YouTube, Zoom and Microsoft, with the date we last checked them. Those companies may change their guidance at any time. Check their help pages for current figures.

No affiliation

The test uses Cloudflare’s open-source engine and network. We are not affiliated with or endorsed by Cloudflare, or by any internet provider or service mentioned on this site. Product and company names belong to their owners.

Not professional advice

Our troubleshooting guides describe common, generally safe steps. If you are unsure about changing router settings or handling equipment, ask your provider or a qualified technician. Don’t open or modify equipment that belongs to your provider.
